Some time ago, a friend of mine, Mikael, told me about his plan to open his own cafe/coffee place in Helsinki. And just over a year later, La Soupe is here!
As you probably guessed from the name, La Soupe specialises in soups. But not your stereotypical watery or pureed soups that you only ever really eat when you're sick. But real hearty, freshly made (from local produce) soups. Soups that are delicious and will really fill you up!
La Soupe typically offers four different flavoured soups each day and generally with at least one vegetable option and one simpler, easy to eat/drink puree type. They also offer the usual additions of croutons and bread rolls to go with the soup, and are also soon launching additional salad options.
At 4.90e for a large 'cup' of soup (you can also save 50c if you take you own 'cup'), it's a quicker (food and drinks are to take away), easier and cheaper lunch option for those in town. I know I certainly get bored of the same old buffets and lunch offers around town - all for about the same price, and all leaving you pretty bloated and in need of a nap afterwards.
La Soupe is located in the city centre, just behind Forum at Eerikinkatu 12 (a quick walk from the Kamppi metro station or the Ylioppilastalo tram stops on Mannerheimintie just by Stockmann). But if that's still too far for you, they will hopefully soon be delivering via the Wolt app.
When I visited last weekend, I had a delicious meatball soup and a bread roll, as well a really nice latte (they also do a variety of great coffees). If you're in the area and want something tasty to fill and warm you up (it's getting cold out there now), I highly recommend La Soupe. Stop by and sample the soups and/or the coffees, and help support a new local business in the process!
